NEW DEVELOPMENTS
World-First Award for Southport Yacht Club's Recently Introduced "Waterscape by Superior"
In a world first, Southport Yacht Club's recently opened Waterscape pontoon bar and function facility has been declared a category winner in the prestigious Good Design Australia awards, which were announced in Sydney. The unique modular concept, designed by Alexander Lotersztain and created by Gold Coast company, Superior, beat the best local and international designs to be declared a winner of the “Sports and Lifestyle” category in the highly sought-after awards. The Good Design Australia awards are recognised in Australia, and internationally, as one of the longest standing and most coveted forms of recognition in the world. After “Waterscape by Superior” was released to the Australian market a few months ago, then to the world at the recent Monaco Boat Show, Southport Yacht Club became the first organisation in the world to place an order. Since being installed and moored just off the clubhouse at Main Beach, the 10-metre square Waterscape bar has proven to be a highly popular facility for members, and a valuable asset for the staging of special functions. Access to the pontoon is gained via a specially designed and constructed walkway extending out from the club's lawn.

Jupiters to Undergo One of Australia's Most Extensive Hotel Refurbishments
One of Australia's most extensive hotel room refurbishments will soon be underway at Jupiters Hotel & Casino, as Echo Entertainment Group moves ahead with the next stage of the property's $345 million transformation. The project to revitalise the property's almost 600 rooms, together with some initial work already completed around the pool and hotel façade, will cost around $75m – making it one of the most comprehensive and highest value hotel refurbishments ever undertaken in Australia. The first completed stage of the refurbished hotel rooms are expected to open at the end of October 2015, with the entire project scheduled for completion by the end of 2016. Internationally renowned architects Steelman Partners are behind the styling of the rooms, which are designed to create a sophisticated and modern feel that will complement the Gold Coast's relaxed beachside lifestyle. This vision is being delivered on the Gold Coast by ML Design, a highly respected south east Queensland architectural practice. The rooms will also include state-of-the-art lighting and technology, iPad connectivity and smart televisions, while offering guests the very best in terms of luxury finishes, including marble and stone sourced from Italy and Turkey, rain-head showers and luxurious new bedding.

New Events Space for Broadbeach
A permanent outdoor events space that would service visitors and the community will be constructed at Broadbeach. The Broadbeach Boardwalk Events Space will be located on the beachfront at the northern end of Kurrawa Surf Club and provide a premium venue for outdoor dining, public events, live entertainment and Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™ related events. Designed to hold heavy temporary structures and equipped with lighting, power and water, the 20 by 20 metre deck will be capable of holding 500 people. Mayor Tom Tate said the event space was one of the key deliverables of the City's Destination Tourism Management Plan (DTMP). “We conducted extensive research with relevant industry stakeholders that revealed there was a significant need for this kind of product,” he said. “The Gold Coast is competing globally for the conference and incentive market and organisers are seeking, unique money-can't-buy experiences to offer their clients.”
