Today I joined the Minister for Education and Training Joy Burch to announce a new $10.7 million Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) training centre in the heart of Tuggeranong as a significant measure in the upcoming ACT Budget.

CIT Tuggeranong campus will significantly expand CIT’s course offerings, support services and facilities in Tuggeranong, with the first new courses available for study in 2016.

The upcoming Budget will be for Canberra – renewing our city suburbs and delivering on the resources our community needs. This Budget will ensure Canberra remains the world’s most liveable city – and a place all Canberrans can be proud of.

The courses will be offered in a contemporary suite of training facilities to support the highest quality of teaching and learning. The campus will be a major boost to local businesses in the Tuggeranong town centre, with greater activity during the working week.

Minister for Education and Training Joy Burch said she was very pleased to announce the measure that would support the public and private sector in innovative business practice in the Tuggeranong community.

“The new CIT campus will see a significant increase in education and training services delivered into the Tuggeranong Valley, with face-to-face courses available from certificate II to advanced diploma level, and pathways to degree courses.”

“The expansion of course offerings at CIT Tuggeranong will attract students from around Canberra to study in Tuggeranong, providing a significant boost to the Tuggeranong economy. The same flexible learning options and student support services available on all CIT’s major campuses will also be available at Tuggeranong to support the learner.

“The focus on business, technology, innovation and the growing community services sector will present the Tuggeranong community opportunities to access quality training suiting new learners and professionals wishing to upskill across a range of emerging and in-demand discipline areas where they live and work,” Ms Burch said.

The CIT Tuggeranong campus will be vital for supporting the diversity and vibrancy of the Tuggeranong town centre through localised skilling and education options to develop and grow local business.

A further $2.6 million will be injected into current CIT campuses at Reid and Bruce to upgrade existing facilities.
