Joint media release: Chief Minister Andrew Barr MLA and Yvette Berry MLA

The ACT Government will continue its focus on equity in our education system investing more in supporting all students to get the most from their learning, regardless of individual circumstances, characteristics or background.

Students from many different walks of life learn alongside each other in our public schools. The government supports diversity in schools and knows how important it is to recognise and fund schools based on need.

The upcoming Budget continues this commitment by providing $3 million in additional funding to cater for students with a disability. This initiative will ensure the needs of students with disability are met and that they have access to the same life benefits that flow from a good education.

The ACT Government has demonstrated our commitment to supporting our world class, inclusive education system, and the upcoming ACT Budget will invest more in better schools, better teachers and better resources for our educators.

The upcoming Budget will also support our conversation about providing a better future of education in the Territory for all students.

Funding of over $500,000 over two years will support a community-wide consultation and policy development process to map out the school education system, from early childhood to school leaving age, that our community wants for the future. The government’s future of education strategy will emphasise the core value of equity in our schools, because every child regardless of their circumstance or background must have access to an education that will set them up for a bright future.

We aim to support all children in education, regardless of their background through our focus on equality, inclusion and quality learning; inspirational teaching and leadership; high expectations, high performance; connections with families and the community; and business innovation and improvement.

Over $3.5 million collectively will be invested in these initiatives so we can continue to provide high quality education to all of our students.

All quotes attributable to Yvette Berry, Minister for Education and Early Childhood Development.
