Heartbeat of the Murray - Pioneer Settlement
The riverfront at Swan Hill’s Pioneer Settlement is set to be transformed with the installation of a world-first laser light show, Heartbeat of the Murray. Launching on 28 November, the night time production will use water, light, laser, sound and special effects to tell the fascinating story of the Murray – from 30 million years ago to today.
The set features 20 water fountains, each of which can spray water up to 40 metres high and is fitted with individually coloured LED light. Two parabolic jets have also been installed to create a rainbow-like spray of water 25 metres in diameter, which will act as the screen for the visuals. The show will face the Little Murray River making it the first show of its kind to use a natural river environment and setting as the background.
The $3.85 million redevelopment of the Pioneer Settlement also includes a new augmented reality app, along with a new website and wi-fi hotspots enabling visitors to use their smartphones and devices to visually interpret pioneers’ lives as they tour the settlements buildings and machinery.
