A soon-to-launch market is set to show visitors just how seriously Melbourne takes its design – with a revolving collection of must-have design items on the city’s doorstep. Launching on 5 September, The Upmarket will be held in the forecourt of the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) on the first and third Saturday of every month, showcasing the city’s best design talent alongside edible delights.
The Upmarket will have three sections: The Design District will focus on interior and fashion design, with both emerging and established designers represented, including Wingnut & Co (tableware), Inkstermaken (handcrafted lighting products) and Abby Seymour (jewellery). The Larder will be home to a selection of organic local food providores, such as Maker and Monger (cheese), Half Pint Vegan Dairy (vegan products), and Malmsbury Kitchen Garden (fresh produce). Meanwhile, the Heart of Dining will provide the fuel to keep market-goers powering on, with streetfood from the likes of Lardo & Uovo, Joyce and Louis and Goldilocks Lunchbox.
In a bid to support Melbourne’s emerging designers, five stalls will be dedicated to design students and graduates, including one stall available free-of-charge. And for the budding creative in all of us, The Upmarket will also host workshops for all ages, such as a Cake Art Extravaganza with the Hotham Street Ladies and Food Gardening in Small Spaces with Simon Rickard.
