Eco-tour to launch at the Prom

Wilsons Promontory Cruises is the latest addition to Pennicott Wilderness Journey’s award-winning ecotours.

Pennicott is bringing it’s highly credentialled environmentally friendly offer to Victoria’s southern waters for its first touring offering on mainland Australia.

Starting the journey on the sandy shores of Tidal River, the 32-seat world first custom built amphibious boat sets off from land and transitions seamlessly to the ocean, giving visitors a safe, exciting and comfortable journey.

While cruising the waters of Bass Strait and Victoria's first marine national park, visitors are advised to keep their eyes peeled for sightings of seals, migrating whales, leatherback turtles, dolphins, sharks and many species of coastal birds.

The journey explores caves, coves, rocky islands, and southernmost tip of Australia’s mainland, South Point, with the prehistoric boulders of Mount Oberon in the background, white quartz sands of Norman Beach in the foreground and the colossal Skull Rock protruding from the ocean as the true highlight of the trip.

The curves and crannies of granite have been sculpted by years of crashing waves and wild winds, giving Skull Rock an eerie facade with hidden skull shapes more and more visible as the boat closes in on the impressive monolith. Skull rock is so huge that the Sydney Opera House just about squeezes inside its main cavern.

A family business operating since 1999, Pennicott Wilderness Journeys started in Bruny Island and has spent 20 years building its credentials as an environmental tourism operator and is recognised with 12 Australian Tourism Awards.

Pennicott Wilderness Journeys is a 100% Carbon Offset and an Advanced Ecotourism Certified operator, accredited by EarthCheck. Its ethos is to operate in harmony with the environment and local communities, employing local staff and using local suppliers wherever possible.

Through the Pennicott Foundation, the company gives back to the environment and with philanthropic activities, which are funded in part by a portion of each ticket sale.

Taking a journey on Wilsons Promontory Cruises reveals the splendour and wonders of the marine park in a way never before possible.

From 23 September, the tours will run daily and bookings are open now.
