Windows to the World, one of the most popular programs from our Centenary of Canberra celebrations, will return in 2015.
Windows to the World is a series of open days and tours at the city’s Embassies and High Commissions. It offers our community and visitors to the city a unique glimpse into the lives of the diplomatic community and the diverse cultures they represent.
This is an experience you can only have in Canberra and is one of the great unique offerings of this city. The program will run over four weekend during Floriade starting on the 19 and 20 of September and concluding on the 10 and 11 of October.
Planning has now commenced and we are expecting an increase in participation by the Embassies and High Commissions. Some will offer open days where the community can come en masse to visit the mission, others will offer smaller tours and experiences which will need to be booked.
I am also very pleased to announce the ACT Government’s partnership with Canberra’s water utility Icon Water. Without their support this program wouldn’t be possible and I am thrilled they are committed to supporting this very popular program. Managing Director John Knox joined me today for the announcement spoke of the utility’s continued support for the Canberra community.
The ACT Government is also working in partnership with the Australian Institute of International Affairs whose staff are assisting with organisational arrangement, bookings and volunteers and with media partner ABC666 Canberra who supported the event in 2013 and were instrumental in telling the fascinating stories of the city’s diplomatic community.
Embassies and High Commissions already committed to the program include the Philippines, United States of America, Greece, the Netherlands, the Delegation of the European Union, Algeria, Botswana, Mongolia, Malaysia and Thailand.
The Embassy of Mexico, the generous host of today’s announcement will be offering a tour of the Embassy and residence and a Mexican food degustation.
More details will be available as we get closer to the date and bookings will open in September.
