- Written by ACT Government
Released 01/02/2024 - Joint media release
The ACT Government is backing our Olympic and Paralympic athletes in the lead up to the Paris Olympic Games in July and Paralympic Games in August this year.
With just under six months to go till the Paris Games, additional funding will support training for ACT athletes as they prepare to qualify to represent Australia.
The ACT has a proud history of supporting Olympic and Paralympic athletes and was the first jurisdiction in Australia to deliver funding parity for the Olympic and Paralympic Teams.
Canberra is the sporting capital and home to elite athletes training at both the Australian Institute of Sport and ACT Academy of Sport. Despite being the smallest jurisdiction in Australia, ACT athletes punch above our weight compared with other states and territories at each Olympics and Paralympics.
The ACT Government’s continuing funding goes a long way to support our local athletes in reaching their potential and to achieve their Olympic and Paralympic aspirations.
The ACT Government will provide a total of $300,000 in funding support through the Mid-Year Budget Review. This includes $100,000 to the Olympic Team and $100,000 to the Paralympic Team for the 2024 Paris Games.
The remaining $100,000 will provide both direct financial assistance and in-kind training assistance through the ACT Academy of Sport for ACT athletes in the lead up to the 2024 Olympic or Paralympic Games.
