A new fire and ambulance station will be built in Acton to service central Canberra as part of our COVID-19 jobs and economic recovery plan.

The ACT Government is investing more than $45 million in the new station to ensure our emergency services continue to deliver nation-leading response times.

The construction of the station will create and support local jobs at a time when our city needs them most.

It will provide accommodation for the new fire fighters and paramedics we are recruiting and help ensure they have the resources and support they need to manage the growing demands on their services.

Given its location, the new station is predicted to be the busiest station for both ACTAS and ACTF&R and will assist ESA to maintain and improve emergency response times to keep our growing community safe.

The new station will service the Canberra City and Inner North area and is expected to be operational in the 2022-23 financial year.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Police and Emergency Services Mick Gentleman

“ESA already operates with some of the best response times in the country, this major investment in infrastructure will ensure our paramedics and firefighters are well equipped to support the Canberra community when they need it most.

“The new City Station is being designed and constructed to provide flexibility in the number of crews and appliances that the station can accommodate on a 24/7 basis to maintain service delivery and support to the community.

“The new station will support two Ambulance Services and ACT Fire & Rescue crews and two appliances at all times, with the added ability to house an extra appliance or support vehicle if required.

“This investment is supported further by the recent announcement of 99 new firefighters who will join ACT Fire & Rescue by the end of 2024 to help staff the new station.”
