The ACT Government is continuing to encourage the growth of our local space industry, with a Canberra delegation set to visit some of the largest space companies in the United States (US) this week to discuss opportunities in Canberra.

Canberra is already the home of a number of space industry leaders, and the ACT Government is working to ensure the industry continues to grow in our city as the Australian Government establishes a National Space Agency.

The growth of the industry in Canberra will increase employment opportunities for the region, with the local space industry already employing around 2,000 people. More commercial operators in the ACT will also support our tertiary education sector, particularly those with astronautical interests such as the Australian National University and UNSW Canberra.

During my time on the US West Coast, I will visit space industry leaders such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Space X, Planet and Northrop Grumman to discuss how the ACT Government can support them to expand their presence in Canberra.

I will also meet with multinational technology companies such as Microsoft and Cisco in the United States this week. As the ACT grows our international presence with the establishment of direct international flights, there are opportunities for multinational corporations to expand their services into the Australian market through Canberra.

The estimated cost of the US delegation for the Chief Minister’s office is $43,000. The final cost will be released as part of the regular travel reports.
