Minister Barr: ACT strengthens relationship with Singapore though Arboretum MOU

The ACT Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the National Arboretum Canberra and the National Parks Board Singapore that will see greater collaboration between the Arboretum and the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
The MOU is just another example of the strengthening ties between Canberra and Singapore resulting from the direct international link through Singapore Airlines’ Capital Express service.
The ceremony formalised an agreement which will see an exchange of research and staff between the National Arboretum and the Singapore Botanic Gardens – a world renowned scientific institution and UNESCO World Heritage site.
The ACT Government is proud of the work of our Arboretum, which was an ACT Labor Government initiative after the devastating 2003 Bushfires. The Arboretum is a legacy to that disaster which attracts hundreds of visitors every week.
Through the MOU we will identify opportunities for joint research projects, staff exchanges and general sharing of information and materials between the National Parks Board Singapore and the Arboretum. Both have passionate and committed staff who have much to learn from each other.
While our cities have different urban environments and climates, the National Parks Board of Singapore and the National Arboretum Canberra share a similar vision for promotion and enhancing open green spaces in urban areas, along with a passion for the protection of nature and biodiversity.
