The ACT Government has established a new partnership with local industry and research experts to deliver world leading research into driver assistance car technologies.

The ACT has an opportunity to be at the forefront of this exciting advancement in personal transport – as it combines our world-leading research capabilities with local, innovative businesses. With the support of the ACT Government, Canberra can be seen as a real player in the international global effort to bring autonomous vehicles into everyday use.

Seeing Machines, a Canberra based company with technology that originally came from ANU, will be the lead industry partner for the trial. Seeing Machines is a leading supplier of driver monitoring technology to international car manufacturers and has research partnerships with a range of major Northern Hemisphere automotive companies and overseas universities.

This new partnership, to be chaired by the ACT’s Local Industry Advocate, Kate Lundy, will construct a major research program exploring the impact of these emerging technologies and human behaviour and interaction. The program of testing and data collection will occur in vehicles across the spectrum of automation, including fully driverless vehicles.

Together with Seeing Machines, the Canberra Business Chamber, the University of Canberra, the Monash University Accident Research Centre and the Australian National University are all working closely to be involved in this innovative project.
