Minister Barr: Numberplates to ‘feel the power’ of Canberrans’ creativity

It’s time to update and streamline the number of numberplate slogans on offer in the ACT and I want Canberrans to decide what the new options should be.
We’re all proud of our city and we love to show this no matter where we are travelling, either in the ACT or elsewhere in Australia, and our numberplate slogans reflect this.
Some of our ACT numberplate slogans have been around for a while and it is time to refresh the slogans, so I would like to invite ACT residents of all ages to submit ideas for a new numberplate slogan.
I’m asking Canberrans to get their creative thinking caps on and submit some fantastic ideas for a new numberplate slogan.
Currently in circulation we have the following options:
- CANBERRA THE NATIONS CAPITAL
- CANBERRA - HEART OF THE NATION
- CELEBRATION OF A CENTURY
- CANBERRA - AGE FRIENDLY CITY
- FEEL THE POWER OF CANBERRA
- PARLIAMENT HOUSE (image)
- No Slogan
The first five are still being distributed, with ‘CANBERRA THE NATIONS CAPITAL’ overwhelming the most popular.
For six weeks, from Wednesday 7 September, Canberrans will have the opportunity to submit their slogan or slogans on the new ACT Your Say website.
You’re only limited by your imagination and the number of characters that can fit on an ACT numberplate.
It’s amazing what you can say in 30 characters or less. If you need inspiration, see what others have used around the world or get together with family and friends and brainstorm ideas.
Your idea could be the next ACT numberplate slogan for all of Australia to see. The number of ideas you submit is only limited by your imagination.
However, I ask people to mindful of what they submit, because anything deemed offensive by our panel will not be considered.
A panel of judges will narrow down the field of new numberplate slogan ideas and we will then invite you to vote on your favourite new numberplate slogan.
In the same voting process, you will be asked to vote on which current numberplate slogan you would like to retain.
At the end of this process, ACT residents will have chosen their favourite numberplate slogans to show Australia their pride in their city.
