Two proposals are on the shortlist to restore the historic Canberra Brickworks, including the heritage sites, after a detailed assessment process that included advice from community representatives.

I’m pleased that the community panel approach employed for the Canberra Brickworks development has ensured that any work in the area reflects the expectations of the local and broader community. It is a successful model that has applications in planning and developments in other areas.

The Brickworks development will renew this area, giving a piece of our heritage back to the wider Canberra community and increasing the overall supply of homes in the ACT.

Submissions from Doma Group and a consortiumof Coda Property Group, Lendlease and Canberra Contractorshave been selected from the five submissions received to progress to the request for tender stage for development of the 16 hectare site.

The proposals provide two distinct solutions for the precinct to create a new Canberra destination with access to its industrial heritage. The proposals offer a range of residential dwelling types such as single detached houses, townhouses and apartments.

I would like to thank the community groups represented on the panel, the Yarralumla Residents Association, the Inner South Community Council, the National Trust, See Change Inner-South, the Geological Society of Canberra and Pedal Power ACT, for their valuable and important contribution to this process.

The request for tender for the Canberra Brickworks precinct will be issued in October and will close in December 2016.  A preferred tenderer is expected to be announced in early 2017.

The Land Development Agency will continue to work with the community panel during the tender stage of this sales process.
