Floriade returns next month with over one million flowers set to bloom in Canberra’s Commonwealth Park for the event’s biggest year yet.

The ACT Government is pleased that Floriade, Australia’s premier celebration of Spring, is returning to Commonwealth Park in 2016. Due to new requirements from the National Capital Authority, the Government has employed an innovative approach to this year’s event by utilising portable flowerbeds.

Accompanying the 14 landscaped designed garden beds onsite are 192 StrathAyr Portable Flowerbeds which have been constructed and grown off-site at Yarralumla Nursery, ready for transport and installation onsite at Floriade.

Trialled on a smaller scale at Floriade 2015, the StrathAyr Portable Flowerbeds allow for increased garden displays within the Commonwealth Park event site, showcasing garden innovation, landscape design and current horticultural trends.

The StrathAyr Portable Flowerbeds were purpose-built for Floriade and are recognised as a world first. A display of this size and scale has never been constructed or displayed.

Chief Operations Officer of StrathAyr Portable, Peter Casimaty, has been working with the Floriade team for the past two years on the Portable Flowerbed design.

“The innovation of the StrathAyr Portable Flowerbeds brings another element of design to Floriade and enables more flexibility in use of the park. The technology has been adapted from StrathAyr portable sports fields, portable tennis courts and drop-in cricket wickets,” commented Casimaty.

The transport and installation of the Portable Flowerbeds will take approximately three days to complete, allowing the final growth phase of the planted bulbs and annuals to happen onsite.

Sure to surprise and impress visitors to Floriade in 2016, the StrathAyr Portable Flowerbed display is just another innovative change which adds to the growth of one of Canberra’s key tourism events. Set to welcome close to half a million visitors locally, nationally and internationally, Floriade runs from 17 September – 16 October 2016. For more information visit floriadeaustralia.com.au
