Welcome to Bega Valley Shire Council, the latest local council to join the Canberra Region Joint Organisation.

Bega Valley’s decision to sign up is a strong vote of confidence in our regional cooperation and how by working together we make life better for all our residents.

Together we are able to attract benefits that we would not see as individual jurisdictions. It is Canberra’s role as the centre of a busy region that has attracted international companies Singapore Airlines and Ikea to our city.

When international flights start in September, it will boost businesses across the region, not just in Canberra. Tourists will come to visit the region and regional exporters will see new markets open up. Now Bega will be part of this game changing development.

There is no clearer sign of the Canberra Region Joint Organisation’s success than to have other jurisdictions want to join us.

It’s great for our city to be at the heart of the region and for our neighbours to also be such good friends. It was a proud moment for Canberra when this group chose to call itself the ‘CBR Region’ and to adopt CBR branding.

From the Alpine peaks of the Snowy Mountains to the rich pastures of the Tablelands, pristine beaches along the South Coast and the nation’s capital at its centre, the Canberra Region is an increasingly influential economy that offers a dynamic and diverse range of industries and experiences for visitors, residence and business alike.

The ACT Government is committed to working with our regional partners to strengthen what is arguably the most diverse region in Australia, and I look forward to working with Bega Valley Shire Council in their new role as member of the Canberra Region Joint Organisation.

Clr Rowena Abbey, Chair of the Canberra Region Joint Organisation welcomed the inclusion of Bega Valley to the Canberra Region.

“Bega Valley Shire Council is a strategic partner and this further strengthens the opportunities for the joint organisation to be the strong cohesive voice for the region,” Ms Abbey said.

The Canberra Region Joint Organisation membership now includes the ACT, Bega Valley Shire Council, Eurobodalla Shire Council, Goulburn-Mulwaree, Hilltops Council, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council, Snowy Monaro Regional Council, Upper Lachlan Shire and Yass Valley Council.
