Minister Barr: Local wine makers set to benefit from closer ties between Canberra and Wellington

New Zealand Riesling winemakers are being encouraged to show their talents in the Canberra International Riesling Challenge which was launched yesterday in Wellington, New Zealand.
Wine making is a growing industry in the CBR region, which is set to benefit from the establishment of a new direct connection between Canberra and New Zealand. The participation of international wine makers in our Riesling Challenge is another example of the strengthening ties between the two coolest little capitals in the world.
The Challenge has grown from 137 entries from its inception 17 years ago to just under 500 entrants last year. The competition now sees entries from some of the finest international Riesling producers from France, Germany, the United States and New Zealand.
The Challenge, held from 10 to 15 October 2016, involves Riesling master classes and seminars, public tastings and showcases events at leading restaurants..
Great cool climate wine and a thriving food scene are among the many things Canberra has in common with our new Sister City, Wellington.
