Wandiligong Nut Festival
- Written by Victorian Government
In April and May, walnuts, hazelnuts and chestnuts fall in orchards, backyards and along the lanes of Wandiligong, a small village of around 400 inhabitants just outside of Bright in Victoria’s High Country. Heritage apples litter the grass verges and blackberries twine through the fences. To mark this annual windfall, residents and visitors gather at the Wandiligong Nut Festival on Saturday 23 April to create jams, pastes, soups, or simply to gorge.
The festival began in 2001 as a low-key, local affair but has now grown to include a market, art, music, chestnut preparation demonstrations, and other food and wine events.
This year will include food demonstrations by Hamish Nugent, co owner of Tani Eat and Drink, a Bright restaurant voted New Regional Restaurant of the Year 2014 (Age Good Food Guide) and one chef hat in both the 2016 and 2015 Age Good Food Guides.
