A first in tea: ‘blend-your-own’
- Written by Victorian Government
In an Australian first, tea-connoisseurs can now blend their own brew thanks to the new concept store, Royal Elixir. Based in Prahran, just six kilometres from the city of Melbourne, the store is a world-first for its parent-company, Imperial Teas Group, a Sri Lankan tea giant.
Renowned worldwide for its high quality tea, Imperial Teas Group chose to open its first concept store in Melbourne to capitalise on the city’s love of culinary delights, appreciation for authentic products and willingness to try new things.
A range of 10 core teas (think, black, green etc.) are available to use as the base for the brew, while a selection of more refined flavours such as ginger, orange and cinnamon can be added to create a blend for any taste. Chief blender Palitha Perera will be on hand to ensure the chosen flavours are palatable, advise on which ingredients might go together well, as well as what might help achieve a particular health benefit.
A tasting station is also on hand, where the chosen brew can be tasted, and pre-packaged tea blends are also on offer.
This high-end tea shop can be found at 185 High Street, Prahran – just down the road from the Prahran Market and around the corner from popular shopping precinct, Chapel Street.
