The renewal of the Northbourne corridor will continue with the Dickson Motor Vehicle Registry site to go to a Registration of Interest (ROI) this weekend for a high quality commercial and residential development.

The renewal of Canberra’s entrance, which began this week with the demolition of Dickson Flats, is a key priority for my government.

This site will be offered for redevelopment for an ACT Government office block as well as other development opportunities.

The redevelopment of Northbourne Avenue will create jobs and stimulate our economy. This process will see the Government conduct the largest renewal of our public housing stock, and will see the area transform into a vibrant boulevard that welcomes visitors to the national capital.

The sale includes a pre-commitment by the ACT Government to lease about 13,000 sq m of office space in a new building. This will accommodate a number of Directorates and an Access Canberra shopfront.

The building on the Motor Registry site is well past its useful economic life and is surplus under the Asset Recycling Initiative and the consolidation of Access Canberra services. The vehicle checking station will be relocated to Hume, and the motor registry and other staff will move by the time the site is sold. The ROI asks developers to prepare a concept plan for the site. Developers must register their interest by 31 March, with shortlisted proponents going to the tender stage and a preferred developer selected by July.
