Today I was at the National Gallery of Australia’s Contemporary Art Space to launch Enlighten 2016.

Enlighten 2016, which runs from March 4-12, will see our city come alive after dark, as the festival delivers another program of exciting events and experiences.

Illuminating Canberra for its sixth year, Enlighten will transform the Parliamentary Triangle into a hive of activity, featuring the return of the Enlighten Night Noodle Markets, a range of free entertainment and stunning architectural projections that will light up six of Australia’s most iconic buildings.

Australian Parliament House, National Portrait Gallery, National Library of Australia, Museum of Australian Democracy, National Gallery of Australia and Questacon will all display projections on their walls, while also offering a unique opportunity to explore inside their buildings after dark.

With the announcement earlier this month of direct international flights to Singapore and Wellington from Canberra, now is the time to show off everything Canberra has to offer, including our national attractions and world class events like the Enlighten festival.

Showing the expansion of the event across the city, there will also be activations at the National Zoo and Aquarium, Canberra Glassworks, National Archives of Australia, Australian Botanic Gardens and the Royal Australian Mint.

This year’s event is guaranteed to excite, surprise and thrill locals and visitors to the nation’s capital, once again underlining our push to become the world’s ‘coolest little capital’.

The creativity of the program in 2016 was captured at the launch today as we were surrounded by Ken + Julia Yonetani’s chandeliers made from uranium glass and a nine-metre banquet table made entirely of salt.

Tickets for events on the main nights of entertainment on Friday 4 March, Saturday 5 March, Friday 11 March and Saturday 12 March are now on sale and you can visit http://enlightencanberra.com.au/ for more information and programming.
