Minister Barr: Congratulations to Australia Day Honours recipients

A number of Canberrans have been acknowledged for their contribution to the nation in the Australia Day Honours List.
Professor Chennupati Jagadish, a Distinguished Professor at the Australian National University has been appointed a Companion in the Order of Australia for his achievements in engineering and physics, particularly in the field of nanotechnology.
Eight Canberrans were appointed to the Order of Australia (AO). These include The Hon Dr Brendan Nelson for his service to the parliament of Australia, international relations and cultural institutions, Professor Ann Harding for distinguished service to education in the field of applied economics, Professor Warwick McKibbon also for service to education in economics and global climate policy and Dr Peter Holdsworth for service to veterinary sciences.
Four Canberrans were appointed Member of the Order of Australia (AM) including Mr Joseph Forshaw for his contribution to ornithology as an author and researcher.
We are fortunate to have many in the community who have been awarded a Medal in the Order of Australia (OAM) including Dr Diana Abdel-Rahman for service to the community through multicultural organisations, Mr Brian McConnell for service in the field of drug and alcohol support and Ms Patricia McCabe who has dedicated years of service to our veterans and their families.
I congratulate two ACT Government Public Servants who have been awarded the Public Service Medal. Victims of Crime Commissioner Mr John Hinchey has been recognised for his service to the criminal justice system in the ACT and Ms Marion Pearce who has worked for 12 years in the field of youth justice and protection and has been recognised for her strong advocacy and conflict resolution skills.
ACT Fire and Rescue Officer Mr Ross Turton has been awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal for his leadership and his role in modernising procedures and guidelines within ACT Fire and Rescue.
Several Canberrans were also awarded Military Honours. I congratulate all those acknowledged for their significant contributions to our community.
