Today I was pleased to join members of Canberra’s diplomatic community to launch the 2015 Windows to the World, which will see 50 of Canberra's embassies and high commissions showcasing their cultures to the public during the four weekends of Floriade.

Windows to the World was first launched as part of Canberra’s Centenary celebrations in 2013. The program proved to be such an enormous success that the ACT Government, in conjunction with the diplomatic community, committed to holding Windows to the World every two years.

Canberra is a unique city, and our connections with the Embassies from nations around Australia are part of the city’s charm. The event allows Canberrans and interstate travellers to visit these buildings and get a glimpse into the cultural history of our city.

As the nation’s capital, Canberra hosts more than 100 embassies and high commissions from more than 170 countries across the globe.

The program of open days and tours is a result of a partnership between the city’s diplomatic community, the ACT Government, Icon Water, the Australian Institute of International Affairs, 666 ABC Canberra and The Burbury Hotel.

Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the free shuttle buses to Yarralumla and the other public or healthy transport alternatives.  More details, including the full program of participating missions, transport and online tour booking information is available at http://www.events.act.gov.au/windows.
