Minister Barr: New Canberra Brickworks proposal released
- Written by ACT Government
Released 28/08/2015
Following extensive consultation with the community, a new development proposal for the historic Canberra Brickworks and nearby areas has been released. The development proposal has been significantly amended to address concerns about the scale of the earlier proposals and a desire for the Brickworks to be central to any development project. The proposal also incorporates further feedback from the community, including lower building heights of three storeys, removing the ceremonial entrance to Dunrossil Drive from the development area, and centring the development on the restoration and adaptation of the Brickworks. The project will deliver many of the key public realm elements of the revised master plan released earlier this year including Quarry Park, the Railway Remnants Park and the activation of the Brickworks site, with minimal disruption and impact on the landscape. The site will be an attractive destination for the broader Canberra community to enjoy with the construction of new community parks. Work will continue in coming months with stakeholders on traffic management and parking issues that were identified in community consultation earlier this year. Dwelling types are proposed to be two and three-storey townhouses and three-storey apartment buildings. There will be between 175 to 380 new dwellings in the development depending on the final mix of townhouses and apartments.- Statement ends -
