The ACT Government’s next Twitter cabinet will be broadcast live on the new social media platform Periscope – which according to Twitter will be a world first. The ACT Government have previously held Twitter Cabinets where Canberrans can engage with their local Ministers on Twitter. By broadcasting the event on Periscope, individuals can watch the event live online. This will allow viewers to get a ‘behind the scenes’ perspective of a Twitter Cabinet event. The Periscope broadcast will be hosted by HerCanberra Director Amanda Whitley. My Government is committed to ensuring all Canberrans get an opportunity to engage with their local MLAs. Already this week, the Government has announced that we will be conducting ‘Pop-up’ Cabinet events right across the ACT in the coming months as a way to hear more about the issues facing our local town centres, starting with Woden on 2-3 September. The Twitter Cabinet is a further measure to give Canberrans better access to their local representatives. For one hour, Ministers will be in the Assembly Cabinet room responding directly to their constituents. Flip Prior, Partnerships Manager at Twitter Australia said that this was a fantastic use of Periscope and a brilliant example of open government in action. "A world first by the ACT Government, it demonstrates their progressiveness in adopting new technologies, as well as their willingness to engage with their electorate to respond to questions in real time and we'd love to see more cabinets follow suit." The event will be held on Monday 31 August from 7:30pm till 8:30pm. Canberrans can ask a question on Twitter by using one of the Minister’s handles and the hashtag #CBRCabinet. The event can be streamed live on Periscope by downloading the app and following the ACT Chief Minister - @ABarrMLA who will be hosting the broadcast.- Statement ends -
