Minister Barr: New member appointed to UC Council

Leading Canberra executive Joanne Metcalfe will join the Council of the University of Canberra and current members Sue Salthouse and Tom Karmel will be appointed for a further term of three years.
The University Council is the governing authority of the University of Canberra and provides management, advice and leadership on matters that promote the interests of the University.
Ms Metcalfe is currently the ACT and Southern NSW Operating Centre Manager for GHD and a recipient of the Hudson Private and Corporate Sector Award at the 2009 Telstra ACT Business Women’s Awards. She holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (Hons) and a Masters of Business Administration from La Trobe University.
Her considerable experience in business, architecture and construction will be particularly valuable to the University as it continues to develop and attract millions of dollars in investment in its campus. Ms Metcalfe’s term on the University of Canberra Council will be three years.
The reappointment of Ms Salthouse and Dr Karmel for a second term gives them the opportunity to continue their outstanding contribution to the University through the Council.
Ms Salthouse is an educator with qualifications in Agriculture Science, Education and teaching Italian. She is the current Canberra Citizen of the Year and previous ACT Senior Woman of the Year, has held a number of advisory board positions representing women and the disability sector.
Dr Karmel holds a PhD in Economics and is an adjunct professor at the National Institute of Labour Studies, Flinders University. He consults in the fields of economics of education, labour market research and is a Senior Research Fellow for the UNESCO Chair at the Hong Kong Institute of Education.
