More than 90 individuals and 12 community groups who have been living or operating in Canberra for 50 years or more were recognised at today’s Canberra Gold Awards ceremony.

Across our city, everyday Canberrans do important work for our community - be it caring for our most vulnerable, nurturing our young people, contributing to Canberra’s economic diversity, or enriching our lives through creativity and innovation.

The Canberra Gold Awards provide the government a way to celebrate these individuals and organisations and the contribution they make for our community.

This year we’ve recognised local businesses, sporting groups across cricket, hockey, rugby union, and AFL; an orchestra and a choir; as well as community organisations, fundraising groups, and a local women’s fellowship that has both national and international impact.

Canberra is a growing city, and these awards importantly reflect on the people and groups that have helped make Canberra such a great place to live, work and play.

Since 2005 more than 4500 individuals and groups have been recognised for their commitment to Canberra and the ACT through these awards.

I congratulate all the recipients from this year’s awards and encourage people to nominate a friend, family member or group you’re involved with next year.

Nominations are open year round and can be submitted at www.act.gov.au/cbrgold

Quotes attributable to Julie Rose, President, Woden Valley Youth Choir:

“We are delighted to be receiving this award in our 50th year. Woden Valley Youth Choir has been an important part of the culture of Canberra since its inception in 1969. As we celebrate our 50th year, it is wonderful to be recognised by the Chief Minister for our contribution to this community.”
