The ACT Chief Minister, Treasurer, Minister for Economic Development and Minister for Tourism and Major Events will lead a large delegation of Canberra businesses in Singapore this week to promote their products and the wider capital region to the Asian market.

With the start of direct international flights between Singapore and Canberra, south east Asia has emerged as a key market for a diverse range of ACT businesses.

As part of the tourism program, a number of Canberra region tourism operators will meet with key travel trade distribution partners on 5-6 July, including airlines, wholesalers, retail agents, professional conference organisers and education agents.

ACT Parks and Conservation, Go Boats, Shaw Vineyard, Canberra Secrets and Canberra Guided Tours will join the delegation to Singapore for the first time.

The Canberra Business Chamber will also participate in the mission and support business development activities for representatives from Deeks Health Food, Agrigate Australia and UNSW.

An innovation delegation, led by the CBR Innovation Network, which includes Liquid Instruments, Reposit Power, Mullion Group and Skoolbo, will participate in a major investment showcase.

Along with leading the Canberra delegation, the Chief Minister will also participate in the 2018 World Cities Summit as Chair of the Council of Capital City Lord Mayors, and talk to major international companies – including Toll – about expanding Canberra’s role as a freight hub.

Following the Singapore leg, the Chief Minister will travel to Seoul and Hong Kong as part of the annual post ACT Budget roadshow to attract new investment to the Territory.

The Seoul trip also includes meetings with renewable energy investors, while the Hong Kong component includes a meeting with Hong Kong Airlines to discuss international flights from Canberra.

The cost of the Chief Minister’s delegation for the 11 day mission is approximately $36,000. This is met from the ACT Executive 2018-19 budget. The final cost will be released as part of the regular travel reports. Business delegates are supported through the Canberra Business Chamber CBR International Support Network trade program.
