- Written by ACT Government
Released 24/10/2017
Former Commonwealth Auditor-General Mr Ian McPhee AO PSM has been appointed as the independent ACT Public Sector Standards Commissioner commencing 29 January 2018.
I’m confident Mr McPhee will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the role which ensures ACT public servants uphold the highest ethical standards. He has held several senior positions in the Australian Public Service including Deputy Secretary of the Department of Finance and Administration and Auditor-General for Australia.
The office of the Public Sector Standards Commissioner was established on 1 September 2016, under the amendments to the Public Sector Management Act 1994 and replaced the previous office of the Commissioner for Public Administration.
The Public Sector Standards Commissioner is an integral component of the ACT Public Service Integrity Framework being responsible for the oversight of misconduct investigations and the management of Public Interest Disclosure functions.
The Public Sector Standards Commissioner is independent of the ACT Public Service, reporting directly to the Chief Minister.
As Mr McPhee is unable to take up the position until 29 January 2018, Mr Laurie Glanfield AM has been appointed to the role in an interim capacity. Mr Glanfield is the former Director-General NSW Department of Attorney General and Justice for over 20 years until 2013 and has occasionally consulted to the Government at very senior levels. Mr Glanfield will commence in the role on 2 December 2017.
I would like to pass on my personal thanks to the current Commissioner Ms Bronwen Overton-Clarke, who has performed this role effectively and with the utmost integrity. I wish Ms Overton-Clarke all the best in her retirement.
