What's On

  • Written by Lilly Miller

When you’re a busy working person with barely any time to grab a meal at work, eating healthy can be a mission impossible. However, as you already know as a career-oriented professional or an entrepreneur, the trick is in organizing. When you know how to organize your day and put practical services to good use, you can end up with tasty and healthy food and a healthy eating schedule. If you’re wondering how that’s possible, here’s a little guide on healthy eating for busy professionals:

Don’t skip meals

When you’re busy working, learning or teaching, taking calls from clients and fixing mistakes of other people, it’s easy to forget to eat or skip meals on purpose. You might even employ this technique in order to lose weight. However, skipping meals won’t do you any good. Being overly hungry by the end of the day will cause you to make rash dietary decisions, reach for double portions of fast food and indulge in overeating.

Make sure to leave time to eat a protein-rich breakfast to provide you with energy. Also, you can easily have a light lunch to replenish some of the lost fuel throughout the day and stay stable until dinner. Skipping a meal can ruin your focus, make you feel nervous and unfriendly and even give you brain fog which is something you don’t want to experience at work.

Pack your lunch

If you can’t make a healthy choice for lunch in your cafeteria or local restaurant, then pack something healthy from home. When you have your lunch packed, you won’t even try to order something unhealthy.

Stock up on healthy foods at home

When you’re driving home to an empty fridge, it’s easy to take a detour to your closest fast food joint and grab a big serving of burgers and fries or a large pizza. To avoid this, make sure to always have healthy chef prepared meals at home you can just put in the oven and enjoy in no time. These frozen food options are very practical for all busy professionals because you can order ready-made meals made by real professionals and with top ingredients and have them delivered to your house. These foods can be kept in the freezer until you’re ready to put them in the oven for a nice reheat and enjoy. When you have frozen meals at home, as well as some fresh veggies for a nice salad, you will completely eliminate the need to hit fast-food joints.

Invest in a good blender

A blender is a great kitchen tool to have at home because it can help you create a bunch of tasty and quick meals. For instance, if you have some veggies at home, simply cook them, give them a nice blend and you’ll have a delicious, homemade soup to enjoy. Or if you have some fruit, just make a quick smoothie or shake. Both soups and smoothies are portable so you can enjoy them while commuting, working at the desk or during your breaks.

Rely on appliances

Besides your blender, try to find two more useful appliances for your cooking needs. For instance, a crock pot is an amazing solution for tasty meals without any attention. You can simply put all the ingredients in the pot, turn it on and enjoy your workday. When you come home or finish your work in your home office, you’ll have an amazing meal ready for you. A crock pot is perfect for stews, soups and roasts. An instant pot is also a great kitchen helper for busy people. This pot helps you prepare meals in a shorter time so you can enjoy amazing meals without wasting time.

Practice portion control

If you’re a busy professional, you probably don’t have enough time to weigh your meals or count all the calories. Instead, you can practice portion control in another way. For instance, when eating at a restaurant, ask to have half of your meal to go. At home or the cafeteria, fill half of your plate with veggies, a quarter with protein and a quarter with whole grains. You can also start using smaller plates that will look full and rich even when they only pack a small portion.

Stay hydrated

Your body is composed of 60% water, so make sure to keep those levels healthy by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. According to experts, you need at least 10 glasses of water every day for the healthy functioning of your body. Water will also ensure you don’t get dehydrated and messy. Dehydration can be horrible for your work performance so do it for your job if not for your health.

All busy professionals struggle with healthy eating. If you want to do something about your diet and improve the way you treat your body, follow these tips and you’ll realize that it’s more than possible to be a career-oriented person that also eats well.
